There really was not too much doubt was there? Cesc Fabregas was the outstanding player for Arsenal last season and not surprisingly the Spaniard scooped nearly two-thirds of your votes. He heartily deserves this award. Fabregas turned 20 a fortnight before the end of the season and yet he still has 153 games under his belt as an Arsenal player. If, as expected, he honours that eight-year contract he signed in October last year then, at the end of it, he could be starting to think about chasing David O’Leary’s appearance record of 722. The excellence of Fabregas over the course of the past season is seen more clearly because, not despite, his lack of goals. More than ever, the modern media hang their coverage on scorers. How many times the striker hog the headlines merely because he had hit the winner?

Thierry Henry was unveiled as a Barcelona player on Monday bringing to an end his eight-year spell at Arsenal. The French striker eclipsed Ian Wright's all-time scoring record of 185 during his time with the Gunners, departing after a staggering 226 goals in 370 appearances. The record-breaking strike came in a Champions League clash with Sparta Prague on October 18, 2005 and at the time we celebrated his magnificent achievement with a feast of content on Arsenal's most prolific-ever player.

The media and rival fans and punters alike all made fun of Arsène Wenger when he was taken out of context some two years ago. He was misquoted as saying: "I think we can go the whole season unbeaten ...", and since then that quote became the bane of many jokes. Well, guess what? Arsenal did it. Arsène Wenger led Arsenal to an astonishing season in 2003-04 where the champions did not lose one single match where they won the championship in a devastatingly entertaining manner. Last season though, Arsenal endured their toughest season under The Professor with the loss of captain and midfield dynamo Patrick Vieira hitting the players and fans especially hard. What did Arsène do? Did he spend mega-bucks in the transfer market, a la Chelsea? Did the team capitulate (well for a while they almost did...)? No - he stuck with the young charges at his disposal: Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Eboue, Kolo Touré all made huge strides last season, culminating in Arsenal reaching the final of the European cup and getting to within barely 15 minutes away from an unlikely victory. Furthermore they managed to win fourth place on the last day of the season, gloriously pipping Spurs to a spot in next season's Champions League. Next season shapes up to be a good one. Arsène knows.

Billionaire Usmanov increases stake in Arsenal

An investment company controlled by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has become the second-largest shareholder in English Premiership football team Arsenal.

Alex Hleb picked ip a hamstring injury while on international duty. "Hleb came back with a hamstring injury,” Wenger told Arsenal.com on Thursday afternoon. “So once again we lose someone during this [international] period. I think he’ll be out for 21 days." November 23, 2007

Arsenal.com are building up to the 10th anniversary of the manager’s first match with a week of celebration starting on Monday, October 9. It will culminate at the home game with Watford on October 14, the nearest date to the 10-year anniversary of his first match. The news everyone has been waiting for finally arrived on Friday morning when Arsenal announced Arsène Wenger has signed a three-year contract extension. Last year Arsenal.com dedicated a whole week of content to the Frenchman to celebrate him reaching 10 years as Arsenal manager.

Designed to honour the colour of the Club's set of shirts for the first season at Highbury, they were adorned with gold lettering and accompanied by white shorts and redcurrant socks.
For season 2006/07, the first at Emirates Stadium, a welcome return to the famous red and white of Arsenal was made.
For season 2007/08 Arsenal will wear a new away kit with a design that celebrates the pioneering spirit of legendary Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman. The new kit embraces design features that highlight Chapman’s influence over the game to this day, and sees a return to the white away shirts worn throughout the Club’s history.

The VCC crest (5), which the new crest replaces, has been Arsenal's symbol since appearing in the first new style magazine matchday programme of season 1949/50. It would appear to have been in the minds of the Gunners hierarchy for at least a year prior to this. In the final matchday programme of the 1947/48 League Championship winning season, 'Marksman' (aka Harry Homer), the programme editor of the day.

Two seasons later and Arsenal unveiled its new crest which incorporated Marksman's latin maxim. Tom Whittaker explained in the 1949/50 handbook (which also included the new crest) that the Club had been impressed by Marksman's motto and it had now been officially adopted by the Club. The new crest also featured 'Arsenal' in a gothic style typeface, the westward facing cannon, the Borough of Islington's coat of arms and ermine. For the past 53 years this crest has remained largely unchanged (6), though at the start of the 2001/02 season it was 'cleaned up' somewhat (7) for commercial reasons, with a solid yellow replacing the different tones of gold and Victoria Concordia Crescit written in a less ornate typeface.
The Club's identity has thus evolved over the years and the decision to formulate a new crest (8) in 2002 was two-fold. Firstly, as the VCC crest incorporated many separate elements introduced over a number of years, there was uncertainty surrounding its exact origination. Consequently, the Club was unable to copyright the VCC crest. Secondly, it had always been one of the Club's primary objectives to embrace the future and move forward. With a new stadium on the horizon and the Gunners consistently challenging for domestic and European honours, the Club believed that this was the ideal time to introduce a new crest.
